De Facto Journalism Co-operative (“De Facto”) is a non-profit workers’ co-operative based in Vancouver, B.C.
This Privacy Policy forms part of the user agreement contained in the Terms of Service of defactomedia.ca (“Website”) which is owned by De Facto Journalism Co-operative (“De Facto”).

Use of third parties for contributions and billing information
If you make an online donation via credit card or contribute via chequing account, we won’t store your billing information in our systems. Instead it’s collected and processed by trusted third-party service providers, Stripe, who process your one-time gift or store your data securely to be processed on a recurring basis (depending on the frequency you select).
All financial partners we work with are Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS) compliant and have resources dedicated to maintaining security and confidentiality.
Can I get a refund?
Contributions to De Facto are non-refundable. In case an error is made in the amount of a contribution, the payor has 72 hours (three days) to notify De Facto. All requests for refunds must be made in writing by email to info@defactomedia.ca.
In case an error is made by De Facto, full refunds will be issued immediately upon notification of the error.
What kinds of personal information do we collect and hold?
- We collect and hold:
- your name(s);
- your email address;
- your website;
- your system information used to connect with the Website such as:
- device ID;
- IP address;
- geo-location;
- device type; and/or
- server log information;
- your page view statistics;
- traffic pathways into and out of the Website.
How do we collect and hold personal information?
- We collect your information when you sign up for to our mailing list(s), when you visit pages on the Website, and when you input information to the Website, such as in the comments section of an article.
- Your personal information may be aggregated with other users or be held on its own.
- Your personal information is held on servers hosted by Ghost.
The purposes for which personal information is collected, held, used and disclosed.
- Your personal information is collected, held, used and disclosed in order to allow you to interact with the Website.
- We use your personal information to contact you about the content of the Website and any additions to it. You may opt out of any of our direct marketing communications.
- We disclose your personal information to the following third-party service providers in order to allow you to interact the Website and receive communication via our mailing list: Ghost (hosting & mailing list), Tiny Bird (analytics), and Stripe (payment processing).

This agreement (“Agreement”) is between users of defactomedia.ca and any related service, tool or application (“Website”) and the operator of the Website (“De Facto”).
Changes to these Terms and Conditions and Privacy Policy
De Facto may change its terms and conditions and its privacy policy from time to time. If we make any changes regarding disclosure of Personally Identifiable Information to third parties, we will post notice of the new policy on our website.
Disclaimers and Limitations of Liability
Although we take reasonable steps to prevent the introduction of viruses, worms or other destructive materials and programs to our site, we do not guarantee or warrant that our site or materials that may be downloaded from our site are free from such destructive features. We are not liable for any damages or harm attributable to such features. We are not liable for any claim, loss or injury based on errors, omissions, interruptions or other inaccuracies in our site, nor for any claim, loss or injury that results from your use of this site or your breach of any provisions of this agreement.
